콘텍스트가 싫다. 텍스트만의 자족적인 세계가 나는 좋다. 와토가 사랑의 정원에 머물다가 사랑의 섬으로 여행을 떠나듯, 프라고나르가 깊은 숲 속에서 남이 알지 못하는 밀애를 즐기듯이, 아무도 모르는 곳으로 가고 싶다. 하지만 자본주의가 세상의 모든 것들을 집어삼킬 무렵, 한때 우리들의 신앙이었던 마르크스는 당당하고 비장한 어조로 '전 세계 프롤레타리아트여, 단결하라'고 외치며 자본주의 이후의 신세계에 대해서 슬프지만, 희망적인 메시지를 전했을 무렵, 오스카 와일드는 고상한 연애짓을 해대며, 우리 삶이 예술을 닮아있다고 말했다.
콘텍스트가 싫다. 텍스트만의 자족적인 세계가 나는 좋다. 하지만 슬픈 표정의 예술가들이 끝내 그 희망을 이루지 못했듯이, 내 사랑도 그렇게 변해갈 것같아 두려웠다. 콘텍스트 속에서 텍스트는 너무 무력하고 비참하고 한없이 무너져만 간다. 대부분의 문예이론가나 비평가들이 경멸했던 '뗀느' 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 우리 시대의 진실한 예술가들은 슬퍼하고 있다.
얼마 전부터 ELO의 midnight blue만 듣고 있다. 지나간 지 오래된 이 노래가 좋다. 콘텍스트 앞에서 무력한 텍스트의 두려움을 ELO는 알고 있었던 것일까. 나는 콘텍스트가 싫다. 콘텍스트 앞에서 무력할 수 밖에 없는 나를 용서할 수 있을까.
